These pages contain details of the taught element of the course given in first and second terms for first year graduate students at SUPA universities (primarily Glasgow and Edinburgh) in Experimental Particle Physics, Theoretical Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics for SUPA universities.
Although primarily organised for new postgraduate students the courses are available for ALL interested faculty members to attend.
The course covers basic theoretical material, the theory of the standard model and its extensions, current and future experiments and detector technologies. In addition relevant support courses are provided in research methods such as computing and data analysis.
If you have any queries please contact the current course organiser Chris Parkes (Glasgow) or the Edinburgh contact Alistair Hart

Attendance at a (none null!) subset
of these lectures is compulsory.
The list of courses to attend must
be determined in advance between the student, their supervisor(s) and the
local course contact. Please remember that these courses are provided for your benefit at the considerable effort of the course tutors. Absenteism will
not be tolerated. Students who miss courses due to collaboration meetings etc.. are expected to catch up from the handouts and their peers' notes.
Students will be awarded marks for the courses that have tutorial sessions. Students will also be required to
submit a list of the courses they have attended with their research report at
the end of the first year. In the following interview the student will
be required to demonstrate an understanding of the material offered in
these courses.
